At the westernmost tip of Brittany, in the heart of Finistere, discover the Armorican Park. This natural regional site boasts lush, timeless landscapes. Take a stroll along ancient Roman roads, through beech forests and along the ridges of the Monts d'Arrée, and you'll discover a region full of secrets. | |
An introductory trail ride for experienced riders in the heart of Brittany, with its mysteries and history. Between gradual introduction to the saddle and practical workshops, you will discover and perfect the techniques of horse riding: orientation, seamanship. The aim is to enable you to ride safely while developing your relationship with your horse. |
Day 1 - Monday
Welcome from 9am over a Breton coffee. For riders arriving by train or plane, transfers are available from Brest airport or Carhaix station. After an initial contact with the riders and a look at the facilities, we start the course with some practice on foot: approaching the horse in the meadow, leading it in hand and a quick reminder of the care it needs. In the afternoon, an initial 2-hours ride in the saddle along the Nantes-Brest canal gives us a chance to test our ability to lead the horse outdoors (mounting, steering, stopping, reacting to unforeseen events). Dinner and overnight at the farm.
Day 2 - Tuesday
The morning is devoted to setting up a resting place for your horse: finding a suitable spot to rest (presentation of a few poisonous plants, watering place, safety rules), how to settle the horse (whether or not to unsaddle him, makeshift paddock, making a tether line, seamanship, etc.).
In the afternoon, we set off for a 3-hours ride in the hedgerow over varied terrain: fording, crossing low branches, avoiding obstacles on the ground, slalom, etc. Return to the farm for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 - Wednesday
Before setting off for an afternoon ride, we discover or perfect the art of map reading and learn how to use a hiking GPS. A presentation of the rules governing riding and the use of the various paths will enable us to ride courteously. Dinner and overnight at the farm.
Day 4 - Thursday
After three days of initiation, we're ready for a safe ride. Today we'll be setting off for a full day's ride along canals and sunken lanes, putting into practice the exercises we've learnt over the past few days. Picnic lunch during the day (or at the farm, depending on the weather and the level of the group, before setting off again in the afternoon).
Dinner and overnight at the farm.
5 hours on horseback
Day 5 - Friday
On this last day, we head for the "mountains" on the crests of the Black Mountains. There are magnificent views of the Monts d'Arrée. We ride through peat bogs, moorland, sunken lanes and blue shale. Riders depart at the end of the day. For those wishing to take advantage of the transfers, the extra night is compulsory.
6 hours on horseback
IMPORTANT:
We reserve the right to modify the itinerary at any time for weather or other reasons, while respecting the activities as far as possible.

‘A great course to introduce you to riding in a natural environment. Géry is passionate and knows how to pass on his passion. Isabelle provides impeccable catering (special mention for her cakes :-)).
I made a lot of progress during the week, the horses are angels and very well trained. I particularly appreciated the mix of paces, walk-trot-galop during the rides." - Laurent D. (2018)
"Very good introductory course. Nothing to say. Everything is very good, both the course leaders and the horses. A course to be strongly recommended before embarking on multi-day treks when people have never done one before." - Audrey (2015)
