During your horse trail, you will taste red, white and rosé wines : Médoc, Côte de Blaye, Côte de Bourg, Bordeaux Supérieur, Lalande-Pomerol, Saint Émilion, Entre deux Mers, Graves and the famous Sauternes white liqueur wine (moderatly).

Riding excellent trailing horses, you will also discover Blaye Citadel built by Vauban, the Saint Émilion medieval city, the Rauzan feudal castle, and, the Bastide de Cadillac as well.

 

Adding to the excitement of your journey, you will take the boat for about three kilometers to cross the Gironde Estuary. 

Day 1 
Riders are welcomed at Bordeaux airport (6pm) in Hall B at the snack bar ‘La Brioche Dorée’. For riders arriving at the departure station, please take the airport shuttle (30min) and meet in Hall B. Transfer to the hotel in Moulis en Médoc or the hotel in Sauternes depending on the direction of the ride, for dinner and overnight stay. Motorised riders can be met directly at the hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 2
Breakfast at 8am, transfer to the horses at 9am and start of the ride at 10am through flat countryside between vineyards and forests. Picnic on the banks of the Gironde. Médoc wine tasting after lunch. We cross the Gironde with our horses on the ferry to Blaye (40 mins). We enter the 18th-century Vauban citadel on horseback (visit). Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3 
Breakfast at 8am, leaving the hotel at 9am and riding at 10am. We cross the Blaye Coasts and the Bourg Coasts in a hilly landscape. Picnic at a wine producer's at Château Lamothe and tasting of Côte de Bourg wines. Departure around 3pm in the direction of Cubnezais through a flatter landscape, with stretches of wetland with no vineyards. The evening is spent with the winegrower at Domaine de la Gravette. Tasting during the meal. Overnight stay.

Day 4 

Breakfast at 8am, departure on horseback at 9.30am. This is a region of vineyards interspersed with small woods that will take us to Mayne-Veil castle for a picnic and a Fronsac wine tasting. On the way to Libourne, we cross the famous Pomerol region at the end of the day. We leave our horses in the commune of Pomerol to visit Belles Graves castle and taste the famous Lalande de Pomerol wine. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5
We head for Saint Emilion, passing the famous estates of Pétrus castle, Cheval Blanc and Figeac castle. Picnic lunch in Saint Emilion, followed by a free tour of the town. In the afternoon, we leave Saint Emilion to cross the wide Dordogne valley and arrive not far from Courros castle for a wine tasting. Overnight in a guest room.

Day 6
Breakfast at 8am, departure on horseback around 9.30am. We are now in the Entre-deux-mers region, with its varied, undulating, wooded landscapes and its beautiful vineyards. We pass close to the 13th-century Rauzan castle. In the afternoon, a gently undulating route, half vineyard, half forest, takes us to the Broustaret castle (bed and breakfast), where we share dinner in the town of Cadillac and taste the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux.

Day 7
Breakfast at 8am, departure on horseback at 9.30am. As far as Cadillac, the region is very hilly. Then we ride through the Garonne valley to the Graves and Sauternes vineyards. We have a picnic at Myrat castle, where Monsieur le Comte de Pontac takes us on a tour of his cellar and offers us a tasting of this golden-coloured wine. In the afternoon, gallops through vineyards and almost Landes forest take us to Sauternes. Night at the hotel.

Day 8
After breakfast, depending on train and flight times, transfer to Bordeaux airport. Riders with a train will take the shuttle bus from Bordeaux airport to Bordeaux train station (30 minutes). There will only be one transfer to Bordeaux.

Important : The above itinerary is provided on an indicative basis and our guide reserves the right to modify the itinerary depending on the condition of paths, the seasons, the availabilities in the hotels and guesthouses. It is also possible to do this horse tour in one direction or in the other.

Our horses and required riding ability

Horses
Arabic and Paint crossbred horses, Arabic breed and saddle breed. They live in meadow throughout the year in herd, and most of them were born in our equestrian farm. Our horses are trained in winter in order to be ready for summer trails.

Tack
Leather trail saddles customized for this horse breed, "Myler" bridle,
Saddle pad with pockets included, as well as a poncho and water bottles.
Helmet is not compulsory but strongly recommended.

Recommended riding ability

This riding tour is suitable for advanced riders who well manage the three gaits (walk, rising trot, suspended gallop) on a varied terrain, and in open spaces. The advanced rider has a regular riding practice, a good physical condition. He hasn’t a hard hand on his horse’s mouth; he has a good attitude toward his horse and is self-confident. He controls his horse’s speed and direction at all times. He is able to ride long distances (able to ride 30 kilometers per day, an average of 5 hours riding).

Good to know
Children are welcome from 16 years old if they are with an adult.
If the rider decides not to ride for a day, or if he/she does not have the required level, the cost of transporting the horse will be payable directly on site (300 €).

The local team

Guide

David is an Equestrian Tourism Guide. He speaks English and knows the technical terms in that language. Britta is the translator in English, German, Dutch, and Spanish, and she makes you discover the history of the region.

Logistic
The logistic vehicle follows the riding trail (vehicle + converted van) to prepare your lunch. Logistic staff prepares a buffet for lunch and is aware of your needs. Luggages are carried in the vehicle.

Accommodation

Every evening you are in a hotel or in a guesthouse in a double or twin bedroom. You can ask for a single bedroom with an extra charge. We will do our best for you to share your room with another rider, but in case there is no rider to share with you, you will be in a single room with an extra charge.

Meals
Continental breakfast.
For lunch, you will have a cold buffet with a large choice (adapted to particular diets) with wine, coffee and water included, organized by the logistic team.
You will have dinner in the guesthouse, in the restaurant or in the hotel (wine and other extras are not included).

Languages spoken by the guide: English / French / German /Dutch, and Spanish speaking guide.

Group size: from 5 to 10 riders maximum.

Arrival airport / train station:

If you arrive by car : meeting point in the afternoon directly at the hotel.
If you arrive by train or plane, transfers are organized at 6:30pm in Bordeaux airport.
On the last day, transfers are organized before 11:00am in Bordeaux airport.
