PROVENCE -Lavender Horse Riding Tour

Provence Lavender Ride - Ride in France / Randocheval

On the lavender route in Provence… a trip rich in fragrances and colours, starting from the South of Luberon northwards through the different regions famous for their lavender production: Plateau of Claparèdes, Plateau of Albion, the Country of Banon, to the foot of the « Giant of Provence »: The Mount Ventoux.  A ride not only perfumed by lavender scent, but also Provence herbs, such as thyme, sage, rosemary...

Day 1 - Sunday
Meeting at the departure point of the ride around 6pm. Accommodation, introduction to the trail ride and to the guide and other participants and dinner.

Day 2 - Monday
The ride starts on the southern side of the small Luberon. A small rocky trail will take you up on the hills of the Luberon. Nice view on the Mont Ventoux (localy called "the giant of Provence") and the Lure Mountain. We will reach the Plateau of Claparèdes, famous for its lavender production. Lunch in the hills. On the afternoon, you will ride down to the Aiguebrun Gorges, the border between Small Luberon and Big Luberon, then, close to Prieure of Saint Symphorien and we ride along Aiguebrun river to reach our first accommodation down the Buoux cliffs.

Day 3 - Tuesday
This morning, we ride along the small river to its source through an enjoyable green path, then we ride up on the Plateau of Claparedes to discover the first lavender fields, dry stone walls and " bories " (small shepherds' pen). We stop in the perched village of Saignon to water the horses at the fountain. In the afternoon, we ride down to the "Colorado Provençal" old ocher mines. We visit on horseback this exceptional site before leaving your horse and reach your hotel in the village of Rustrel.

Day 4 - Wednesday
We quietly get into a valley shaded by oak trees, onto the Albion Plateau, high spot for lavender. We have our picnic break near a chapel before browsing the plateau, former nuclear missiles site for the French nuclear force from 1971 to 1996. Ride among the lavender and sage fields with a break at a distillery where your guide will explain the production of basis for the perfume manufactures. Arrival at the guesthouse where we can relax and take a swim in the pool before visiting the village of Sault, lavender capital, do some shopping and visit the lavender distillery.

Day 5 - Thursday
This morning, you will ride in the direction of Saint-Trinit through moorlands and forests. The lunch will wait for us in the shade near Sault. In the afternoon, we ride to Aurel, charming medieval village at the foot of the Mount Ventoux. In the afternoon, the colors of lavenders, fields of cereal and the shadows of the Mount Ventoux may tempt us to imitate the numerous painters who fell in love with this region. We arrive at the end of the afternoon near Montbrun-les-Bains, surrounded with green hills and dominating a plain of perfumed lavenders: one of the most beautiful villages of France.

Day 6 - Friday
This morning, we ride by the Giant of Provence: the Mount Ventoux. Then, we ride along the Toulourenc, a refreshing enjoyable stream, through the wonderful villages of Savoillan, Brantes and Plaisians and enter in the Provencal Drome: an alternating of woody and lavender planted hills. In the afternoon, we ride down to Buis les Baronnies where the truck and the minibus are waiting for your transfer back to  the riding centre.
