On the lavender route in Provence… A trip rich in fragrances and colours, starting from the South of Luberon northwards through the different regions famous for their lavender production: Plateau of Claparèdes, Plateau of Albion, the Country of Banon, to the foot of the "Giant of Provence": The Mount Ventoux. A ride not only perfumed by lavender scent, but also Provence herbs, such as thyme, sage, rosemary... |
Day 1 - Monday: Lauris – Buoux
Riders are welcomed at 12 noon with a welcome drink. Introduction to the other participants and the week's programme, followed by lunch at the table d'hôtes. We begin this horse trek in the Luberon, at the foot of the southern slopes. We ride up to the crests of the Petit Luberon before continuing on to Bonnieux. We continue towards the Claparèdes plateau and the first lavender fields. We then descend towards the Aiguebrun gorges, which mark the boundary between the Petit and Grand Luberon. We pass near the Prieuré de St Symphorien, then follow the Aiguebrun river to reach the first accommodation at the foot of the great climbing cliffs of Buoux. You can enjoy a swim in the pool before dinner.
Day 2 - Tuesday: Buoux – Rustrel
Day 3 - Wednesday: Rustrel – Revest-du-Bion
We set off in the direction of the Plateau d'Albion, leaving the Parc Naturel du Luberon and entering the Parc Naturel du Ventoux. We climb gently up a ‘combe’, a small valley shaded by holm oaks, to the Plateau, a major lavender-growing area. Picnic near a chapel before riding across the plateau through fields of lavender and sage. Arrive at the gîte, where you can relax in the pool or visit the village of Sault, the capital of lavender, do a little shopping or enjoy an aperitif on a village café terrace.
Day 4 - Thursday: Revest-du-Bion - Montbrun les Bains
Ride to the village of St Trinit through moorland and forest. Picnic near Sault. In the afternoon, we set off again on horseback towards Aurel, a charming medieval village at the foot of Mont Ventoux. The colours of the lavender and cereal fields and the shadows of the foothills of Mont Ventoux may inspire us to emulate the many painters who have fallen in love with this region. Arrive late afternoon in Montbrun-les-Bains, facing Mont Ventoux, surrounded by green hills and overlooking a pretty little plain planted with fragrant lavender: one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Day 5 - Friday: Montbrun les Bains - Mévouillon
This morning, the route passes at the foot of the Giant of Provence: Mont Ventoux. We ride along the Toulourenc, a pleasant, refreshing stream, through the superb villages of Savoillan, Brantes and Plaisians, and enter the Drôme Provençale: a succession of wooded hills planted with lavender. In the afternoon, we descend to Mévouillon where the lorry and minibus are waiting to take horses and riders back to the equestrian centre's farmhouse.
Day 6 - Saturday
End of the equestrian tour in Provence. Departure after breakfast, free transfer to Aix en Provence TGV or Marseille airport at 9.30 am.
